lucid dreaming, and waking up

Posted on Jun 21st, 2006 by Allison : Dreamweaver Allison

I seem to be seeing my life in terms of opposites, everything that happens is either an opposite of something that happened before, or i react to it in a good or bad way.  In many ways i only like to acknowledge the good, so this seems like a "good" thing, to be experiencing both sides of the street.

Latest example is this dream thing that keeps happening to me, it totally feels like the opposite of lucid dreaming, lucid dreaming is fun and interesting, i am creating this reality that i know is not real, but it feels real enough to make it fun, i think it is a great time, but then what has been happening to me lately, is a totally different experience.  It as though i feel trapped in this dream world, i have this realization that i have to wake up, i want to wake up, i need to get out, but i am full of fear that i can't escape or get out, so there is some sort of understanding that there is more than the dream, and that i am not seeing the big picture, but i can't escape the reality that i have created.  And i know that whatever there is "waking up" is better than the dream i am stuck in, but i don't remember what it is or how to get there.

It is so strange to me because in a way it is the same as what i experience as lucid dreaming, knowing that it is not "real."  But instead of being fun and creative it is scary and daunting.  I am not sure if both are considered to be lucid dreaming, and as with most things people only seem to talk about the good experiences.

Allison, I can very much relate to your situation.  I have had similar problems with “waking up” inside dreams but not being quite lucid enough.  I agree, it can be uncomfortable and kind of scary.  What has been a huge help for me is to meditate for at least 20 minutes immediately before bed.  It has alleviated the “stuck” feeling and really increased my capacity to just witness the dream lucidly with so much of the reactionary feelings.
